Mum's birthday on the Isle of Wight

The family celebrate mum's birthday with a day trip to the Isle of Wight.

The day begins with a drive to Portsmouth and then to follow the signs for the hovercraft to the seafront at Southsea. A quick phone call finds half the family drinking tea, and then begins the challenge of parking.

We queue for tickets, a short wait for the hovercraft and a 10 minute journey time. The route from Southsea to Ryde on the Isle of Wight is currently the only public hovercraft service in the United Kingdom.

Once there we take a walk along the sea front via Garden Walk, Appley Walk to Puckpool and the nominated pub called The Boathouse. We're soon joined by Lee & family, and later Dani & James. On the menu:

• Fillet of Hake ‘w’ IOW Crab & Tarragon Sauce ‘w’ Vegetables & Potatoes
• Coffee & White Chocolate Cheesecake
• Hoegaarden wheat beer

A return barefoot walk along the beach takes us back to the hovercraft and the main land.

Making the most of the sea side, we head for the arcade at Clarence Pier for air hockey. To finish the sea side day, strawberry & vanilla ice cream with flake.
