Christmas in Dorset

I drive to Gillingham to spend Christmas with my family.

Festive celebrations begin the week before: catching up with Paul at The Hope Tap for drinks, before moving to the Back of Beyond for roast turkey dinner followed by Christmas pudding; the office Christmas lunch at The George & Dragon, Sutton Courtenay for baked field mushroom followed by the George and Dragon pie with matured cheddar mash and roasted vegetables; the office secret Santa accompanied by bucks fizz and mince pies.

I take an uneventful drive to Dorset on Christmas day, where a roast turkey lunch with all the trimmings is waiting for me at my parents. In the evening we go to Dani & James' new home in Wincanton for the main family celebration of the season. Gift giving commences upon arrival, along with red wine and other drinks. I'm then given the grand tour before settling, where our attention turns to music choice, food and again music choice.

Sunday sees us at The Walnut Tree Inn for The Sunday Carvery which includes several slow cooked meats, multiple vegetable options, a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding on the side, with various sauces and gravies.

New years eve is a quieter affair, where we greet the new year with a glass of wine whilst watching the impressive 10 minute London fireworks display on the television.
